Serata da ricordare anche per il cinema italiano grazie alla statuetta vinta da Ennio Morricone che, ad 87 anni, gli viene riconosciuto il merito per la sua musica, compagna di alcuni dei migliori film della storia. Riesce finalmente a portare a casa l'Oscar anche Lenardo di Caprio, dopo ben 5 nomination, per l'interpretazione in The Revenant, film che si aggiudica il premio anche per la miglior regia. Mattatore della premiazione Mad Max: Fury Road che si accaparra 6 statuette. Per il miglior film si aggiudica il riconoscimento Il Caso Spotlight di Tom McCarthy.
